My Favorite YouTube Channels

Thursday, February 20, 2020

Just like most people I find inspiration from others and really enjoy going on YouTube to watch and listen to different channels when I have the chance. At the moment I have four favorite channels that I’ve been following for awhile. With the exception of the Rachel Ashwell video I’ve attached the most recent video from each channel below:

The Daily Connoisseur

Out of the four I’ve been watching Jennifer’s channel the longest. I discovered her channel after reading her books from the Madame Chic Collection. She wrote these books based on her time as a college student living with two separate French families but mainly focuses on one family in particular. She provides wonderful insight into the French way of living and she is poised and elegant yet down to earth. Jennifer is a little older than myself but I find that I can relate to her the most because she is also a wife and mother of younger children. Her content focuses on her nine item wardrobe, being a housewife and work from home mom, her travels, current events and she has a series called ‘The Chic Assignment’ in which she touches on various topics such as classical music, art, etc. to educate oneself.

The Chateau Diaries

I found Stephanie’s channel last year and fell head over heels in love with it. When Stephanie was younger she bought a French chateau-Chateau de LaLande, with her best friend and has spent the last 15 years restoring it. Chateau de LaLande is her home, her passion, her business and she has a very fun and sincere personality. Within her channel she shares the progress of the chateau as well as her travels and fun with friends, family, and guests. I enjoy watching her videos with my morning (decaf) coffee- it’s a nice ‘get away’ and I dream of visiting one day. I also enjoy the fact that by watching her videos I’m helping support the restoration of the chateau.

Dainty Diaries

I’m not quite sure how I discovered Catherine’s channel. It might’ve popped up based off of my searches, either way Catherine has a very fun feminine style. Her channel is mainly about her home, DIY’s, her travels and her adorable collection of tea pots, teacups and trinkets. I love how she’s decorated her home and would definitely incorporate more of this style if I was single. Catherine is in her early 30’s and closest to my age. She’s very down to earth and I imagine she’s the type of friend you could sip on a glass of wine with while doing a fun DIY.

 Rachel Ashwell

It wouldn’t be a favorites list without Shabby Chic. Rachel Ashwell’s channel has mainly clips from when she had her TV series on E!. The content isn’t really updated but I love rewatching the clips for inspiration- I just wish there were full episodes of her show. I want to note that I included the above video of Rachel Ashwell but it’s not on her actual channel. This was the most recent interview I could find of her promoting her most recent book My Floral Affair uploaded from this channel- Ryland Peters & Small.

I love finding inspiration and each channel provides something unique. I’m hoping to find more inspiration but in the meantime I will continue to follow my favorites!

Until next time,

Corinna

Heart Pendant & Blessing Beads

Sunday, February 16, 2020

Ever since since I saw these two beautiful items from Shabbychic.com I knew that I could probably recreate them on a budget.

Laura Venosa Original Art- Sacred Heart Paperweight

I love the sacred heart paperweight-it’s simple yet beautiful and I love these farmhouse blessing beads. I’ve also been wanting to make each of our boys one for their rooms and thought this craft would be the perfect opportunity to do so.

I had a good idea of what items I needed so I bought them than searched on Pinterest for a helpful tutorial and came across this one from Emily at Porche & Co.

     Here are the results:

Overall, I’m really pleased with how these all turned out and I’m excited to make more in the future!

Until next time,

Corinna

To New Beginnings

Tuesday, February 4, 2020

Hello and Welcome to MyShabbyHaven. I first discovered Rachel Ashwell’s Shabby Chic a few years ago and it wasn’t until I bought her books that I fell in love with it. I love how Shabby Chic is a style that focuses on beauty, function, and comfort and has a romantic and timeless appeal. I also really love French country and cottage style and believe that Shabby Chic is intertwined in both.

I'm a wife to a wonderful husband and a mother to two beautiful boys. We've had many places to call home as we are a military family and our current home is a mix of secondhand items and things we bought in our early 20’s when I didn’t really know what my design aesthetic was.

The main reason why I decided to start this blog was to capture the transformation of our home. I'm hoping through time I'll be able to add a little more shabby and soul into it. I’m a simple girl and on a budget so I’ll also share my Shabby Chic inspired DIY’s, our travels and other thigs that inspire me. This will be a fun blog and I look forward to writing many more posts!

Sincerely,
Corinna
